Attention! Please, adhere to anti-epidemic measures for coronavirus disease prevention.

What is antibiotic resistance?

Every year in Europe, 25,000 patients die from a serious bacterial infection that is resistant to most drugs.
Antibiotic resistance (antibiotic resistance) occurs when bacteria change under the influence of drugs, becoming insensitive to those drugs. Therefore, antibiotics stop working, and infectious diseases cannot be treated. Antibiotic resistance compromises the effective prevention and treatment of any infection. This increases medical costs, length of hospital stay and increases mortality.
According to the World Health Organization, 64% of patients take antibiotics unnecessarily, in vain.
During the period of an increase in the number of colds, the frequency of unreasonable use of drugs in this group increases.

• Antibiotics inhibit the growth of bacteria or kill them, but do not affect viruses. Influenza is a viral disease. As a result of complications of influenza, a bacterial infection can occur. And only then will the doctor prescribe antibiotics.
• Although bronchitis, sinusitis, and ear infections are caused by both viral and bacterial infections, do not rush to treat them with antibiotics. Even if bacteria are causing them, the doctor will only prescribe antibiotics in really bad cases when he is sure that the cause of the disease is bacteria.
• Do not use eye drops for eye diseases and ointments for wounds without a doctor's prescription, without knowing what caused the inflammation. After all, you not only spend extra money buying unnecessary medicines, but also risk your own health.
• do not self-medicate - take antibiotics only as directed by your doctor.
• do not interrupt treatment. Take a full course of antibiotics even if you feel better.
• Do not use antibiotics left over from the course of administration.
• Do not share antibiotics with friends, family, or acquaintances, but do not give them treatment.
• prevents infections - wash your hands regularly, avoid contact with sick people, and get vaccinated on time.
The World Health Organization notes that even if new generations of effective drugs are invented, the threat of antibiotic resistance will remain if the behavior of each of us does not change.
